Fainting Couch

Mid 17th Century Extrapolation and Refurbish

  • A historical extrapolation using 17th century design elements and a combination of new and refurbished materials.

  • The original chaise, pulled from stock. I would completely strip this piece.

  • I removed all upholstery. Legs and back were replaced. Rounded nose was cut for a more traditional straight shape.

  • A total of 6 legs and 5 stretchers were planned and hand turned.

  • Legs and stretchers all assembled with mortise and tennon.

  • New back and arm built and upholstered.

  • Reupholstered chesterfield style sofa.

  • All fabric and buttons vinyl. Tufted by hand.

Dragon Boat

  • Skeletal dragon boat used to ferry the dead

  • Lumber wagon with simple framing.

  • A seat would be added near the neck for an actor to slump on.

  • Wagon was skinned in flexible plywood for structure

  • Layers of insulation foam were added and shaped to form neck, tail, and scale details.

  • Head was constructed and sculpted separately by a fellow artisan.

  • Inner skin was added to provide safer structure and cleaner lines.

  • Paint was applied under the direction of scenic charge
